1985-1987 ATC250ES Big Red Front Axle/Hub Assembly

Wednesday, August 14th, 2013

As a whole unit the front axle and hub assembly will swap between all of the 1985-1987 ATC250ES Big Red 3 wheelers including the brakes. Research based on part number cross references. The only 2 parts that don’t match exactly is the main hub assembly and the brake drums 1985 had a different part number, however, all parts should still interchange fine for 1985-1987 ATC250ES Big Reds.

ATC185S and ATC200X Top End Swapable Parts

Monday, July 8th, 2013

My testing was with a 1982 ATC185S (has blue over spray in the photos) and a 1985 ATC200X.

Cylinder

Stroke is the same, so the crank does not need to be changed. The bore size is the difference between them and piston of course.

 Piston

The pistons will swap as well for the cylinder swap. You will have to match piston cc with cylinder though.

Head

They appear to be exactly the same, however the 185s intake boot is angled differently, so keep the 185s intake boot on a 185s machine, and a 200x on a 200x machine. See notes about the head cover, or stick with the same model of head cover for the head. Exhaust should bolt up fine, but I didn’t confirm.

Head Cover

They are slightly different shape for the sealing surface, but it isn’t enough to give any problems sealing it up like normal.

Cam

The cams will interchange, but not sure how much of a change it would make on the engine. The 200x should be the more aggressive cam for better top end output.

Carburetor

The carburetor will swap, but I’m unsure if the air boxes are the same size inlet or not though (currently). Remember that jetting is different between the models, the 200x on a 185 will be too rich, and the reverse jetting for the other way.

Intake Boot

The intake boot does swap and bolt on the head fine, but they are at different angles so the air boxes will not line up. Shouldn’t be a problem if you don’t use an air box and have an air filter such as a K&N on the carburetor.

  • 1980 ATC185
  • 1981-1983 ATC185S
  • 1979-1983 XL185S

  • 1983-1985 ATC200X

 Ending Notes

Using the ATC185S head cover would be ideal for the Auto X builds for the compression release option since the pull starter has the hardware to make it function. The ATC200X cam should be an upgrade option for an ATC185.

70-73 US90, 74-78 ATC90 and 79-80 ATC110 Stator Interchange

Thursday, June 20th, 2013

I installed a stator  from a 1970-1971 US90 into a 1979 ATC110. Wattage output might vary slightly from the 90cc to 110cc model. Everything else appears to be a direct swap including the electrical connections with no mods needed.

Part numbers:

  • 79-80 ATC110 stator – 31102-943-004
  • 70-73 US90 and 74-78 ATC90 stator – 31102-918-004

Test install photos of the 1970-71 US90 stator in a 1979 ATC110.

85-86 350X Headlight interchange with TRX 300 88-00

Wednesday, June 19th, 2013

Interchange Requirements:

You will need the OEM bottom mount that the headlight hinges on as the TRX 300 ones are a different length. Everything else is a direct swap.

Differences:

The TRX 300 headlights sit a little bit farther back into the 350X Bezel, but it is not really noticeable.

Part Numbers:

85-86 ATC350X Headlight: 33110-HA5-000

88-00 TRX300: 33120-HC4-000

1985 – 1987 250ES and 250SX Engine Swap

Wednesday, June 19th, 2013

Interchange Requirements:

The 250ES Big Red three wheeler engine is a direct bolt on swap with the 250SX 3 wheeler. All years will interchange with each other as well.

Changes from Interchange:

The primary differences are the engine color, and the 250ES is about 12% lower geared compared to the 250SX.
